I’m with you on the gambling situation. Especially in Jackson’s case, a punishment was probably necessary at the time, but I think we can reinstate them after all of these decades. I’m holding out hope that one day both of them will have their place in the HOF (which is one of the more radical reasons I hate Selig).

And I’m used to having Braun on my team, whether it be the Brewers, WBC, or Fantasy.

My thing with Pete and Shoeless Joe is that their gambling never affected their play. Rose did it as a manager after he had accumulated more hits than anyone ever, Jackson went 12-32 in the Series he took money to throw.

Since it’s a long forgotten issue in an age where the player outearns the gambler, we (not necessarily you, but fans in general) forget that bribery was for decades a threat that could have reduced the Game to the status Boxing currently holds had it gone unregulated. So I get coming down hard on those guys and I get not lifting their eternal suspensions, even if I’d probably accept that their sins are from a bygone era and reinstate them.

It’s evident that the disorder doesn’t affect his performance anymore. It hasn’t shown itself (at least on the field) since ’06, so I think it’s time we let it go. The whole thing is blown out of proportion.

It will affect the Brewers’ pursuit of Dempster financially, but it also gets rid of the threat of the Dodgers signing him themselves. As I said, the Rangers aren’t going to bring him back, which leaves just a handful of teams in on Dempster.

But even if the Brewers don’t sign him, our rotation situation is also getting blown out of proportion. Fiers, Narvy, Peralta, and Estrada (particularly Peralta and Estrada) are more capable than most think.

You’re the only other guy I’ve seen actually downplaying the factor Greinke’s anxiety disorder will play into his future game. I’ve watched the dude for his whole career and I’m not sold that that’s even gonna be a problem.

I do think that everyone’s price goes up after this signing, though. Not good for a team that I presume is looking for a starter.

Didn’t get to see much of him because he got injured right away, but I thought he was going to have a great year. Well above average defensively and has the pop for 20-25 homers. He doesn’t really hit for average and strikes out a bit too much, but that could be compensated for in the Cards’ lineup.

It’s probably a moot point since he wants a full-time job, but what would the Cards be getting if they acquired Alex Gonzalez, who they were rumored to be interested in?

It’s a financial reality that the Angels or Red Sox will get him if they really want him. Though you’re right, if I was in the Al I wouldn’t tough him with a ten-foot poll

I hear he’s looking for a three-year deal. age isn’t really something I’m concerned about with him; he’s remained effective into his mid-30′s and doesn’t need to rely on a heavy fastball because of his offspeed stuff.

but I’m surprised the Angels/Red Sox are interested after seeing that awful stretch in the AL. I was basically writing him into the Brewers’ rotation for next year already. but yeah, i get the feeling he’ll return to form if he comes back to the NL
